Welcome Letter to Parents of 3A

4 January 2016

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to Class 3A! As the teachers of 3A, we are excited to get to know you, and I am looking forward to a happy and productive time with the class.

We would have certain hopes and expectations of our pupils. Our main goals for the class are to impart values to your child and build life-long independent and disciplined learners.  We hope to work together with you in order to achieve these goals.

The school takes attendance seriously. Whenever your child is absent, a medical certificate (MC) from the doctor or a parental note to explain the absence is required. Your child can pass the MC or note to me upon his/her return to school. Please also indicate clearly if he/she is to be excused from PE lessons as advised by the doctor. If I do not get a note from home, the absence will be marked as unexcused.

When any problems arise in the classroom, we will make a complete effort to resolve the matter individually with the pupil. If we are unable to resolve the problem, then we often ask parents for their support and assistance. Together, we can usually solve the problem early and get pupils pointed in the right direction. If there is a recurring behaviour issue or an issue that needs to be brought to your attention, we will let you know, preferably in person or over the phone. As such, we would appreciate it if you can update us should there be any change in contact numbers.

Please support us by reviewing the attached list of class promise, homework policy and other information with your child.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can leave a message at the school office at 64824650. Alternatively, you can email me at jocelyn.kohpeili@gmail.com and jayapriya_kanagasundram@moe.edu.sg. The school will continue to send out letters to parents through the students to disseminate important information. We have set up our class blog at the following address: http://edp-2016-3a.blogspot.com. We will post up notices and pictures of the students from time to time. Let us work together to make this year a fruitful one! Wishing you a blessed New Year in 2016!

Yours Sincerely,

Mrs Jocelyn Tan-Koh Pei Li (Form teacher, Mathematics and Science teacher of 3A)
Ms Priya (English teacher of 3A)

Classroom Promise
The pupils came up with a classroom theme, “Gelare”. Following that, they worked in groups to list down the class promise using the acronym “Gelare”.

  • Greet your teachers politely
  • Extend your knowledge
  • Listen attentively
  • Always complete our work on time
  • Read extensively
  • Ever-ready to endure any difficulties

Homework Policy
Homework assignments will be given and written on the class whiteboard and pupils are expected to write it down in their Pupil Handbook. Pupil Handbook will be given to all pupils. We will also upload information regarding homework on the class blog as well. We would highly encourage you to “follow” the class blog so that you can help to remind your child about the homework. Ensure that your child is equipped with a homework file to keep all worksheets and handouts in. Please ensure that your child completes and hands in the homework to the respective teachers on time. Similarly, for handouts which require input from parents, please ensure that the handouts are filled in and sent back to the school the next day, through your child.

All completed work will be marked and corrections will be done in class before they are sent back home with the pupil. Pupils who are unable to complete their corrections will be allowed to complete them at home. Homework can be given as form of written work or online assignments in our Learning Management System via http://www.lead.com.sg/.

In addition, the Pupil Handbook serves as a communication tool between parents and teachers. Important announcements (remedial, signing of documents, short notes to parents) will be recorded by pupils in their handbook. Do spend several minutes each day to check your child’s handbook to ensure that your child has completed his/her assigned homework. You can sign beside the contents to indicate that you have read and noted them.

Recess
Please ensure that your child has money to buy food during recess, if he/she does not have packed food. Our class will go for first recess this year at 9.45a.m. At 10.10a.m, pupils will assemble in the school hall before proceeding back to the classroom for lessons.
